I used to roll out of bed and immediately check my phone. Email, social media, news. Within minutes, my mind was already spinning with everyone else's priorities and problems. Then I discovered something that changed everything: giving God the first part of my day, what I call my morning time tithe.
Before the World Wakes Up
Just like tithing our income, tithing our time means giving God the first and best portion. Not the leftover minutes before bed when I'm exhausted. Not the rushed moments between tasks. The fresh, clear-minded start of each day. I wake up 30 minutes earlier now. Those 30 minutes belong to Him. Prayer, reading Scripture, just sitting quietly in His presence. No agenda, no rush.
Finding My True Identity
Here's what I've noticed: when I start my day with God, I remember who I really am. I'm His son. Not the guy scrambling to meet deadlines or prove his worth through productivity. Not the person defined by yesterday's mistakes or tomorrow's worries. I am loved, chosen, and secure in Christ. This truth settles deep in my heart before the day's noise drowns it out.
An Eternal Perspective
My morning time also shifts my focus from earthly concerns to eternal ones. Yes, I still have responsibilities and goals. But when I start with God, those things find their proper place. They become ways to serve Him, not sources of identity or anxiety. The urgent feels less urgent when I've spent time with the eternal God.
This isn't about being a perfect Christian or following another rule. It's about relationship. It's about starting each day grounded in who God says I am rather than what the world demands of me. Try it for a week. Set aside even 15 minutes before you check your phone or dive into your to-do list. See what happens when you remember you're His child first, everything else second.
